Clog Dance

The piece didn’t exist until 1959-60 and was written for Sir Frederick Ashton’s Royal Ballet revival of La fille mal gardée (based on Hérold’s 1828 score which however didn’t have a clog dance at all) as an extra item.
John Lanchbery took a Leitmotif for Widow Simone from an alternative score for the ballet by Hertel, and composed a new dance based on that. Though every printed arrangement I’ve seen attributes it to Hérold, his music had no input whatsoever - it’s like one sometimes sees special numbers by e.g. Delibes in a ballet largely composed by Minkus.
